New Orleans founded in 1718 has become a major United States port and the largest city and metropalitan area in Louisiana, surrounded by Lake Pontchatrain which lies to the north, Lake Borgne which lies to the east and The Mississippi River.

St. Louis Catholic Cathedral


New Orleans Has strong Catholic traditions.
St. Louis Catholic Cathedral is a symbol of New Orleans colonial history of French and Spanish settlement.





You will find lots of local vendors and artists along the
streets in the french quarter of New Orleans.



The French Quarter architecture is a mix of French, Spanish, Creole and American styles.  Many of the masonary buildings are adorned with cast iron balconies and walled courtyards.



What a perfect place to sit and relax and listen to the jazz music and other entertainers of New Orleans. 






A shop full of colorful sequined and feathered masquerade masks typical of what is worn for Mardi Gras Celebrations, along with colorful beads in traditional Mardi Gras colors of gold,, green and purple.

There are three active streetcar lines that run through parts of New Orleans.

In the morning we stopped by the famed Cafe du Monde for some beignets and coffee before setting off for Memphis.  Cafe Du Monde is located at the lower end of the French Market.  Best known for their French style beignets and cafe au lait. 


  As we were leaving New Orleans we passed by this cemetery and had to stop to see the grave sites.  Since New Orleans is sinking the graves are put above ground level and several members of a family are put in the same grave site.
